A New York woman who died after being struck by a truck while walking on New Year’s Eve has been identified as 53-year-old Liana De La Vega.
De La Virga was struck by the truck while on the street in the Bronx, the New York Post reported.
The woman, who lived in the city’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighbourhood, had been a friend of De La La Vega’s and was described by her friend as a “lovely lady” who would come to the house to visit her.
“She was a sweetheart and she was a loving lady,” De La Vicas friend, who asked to remain anonymous, told the Post.
De la Vega was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
DeLa Vega’s husband, Jose Luis De La Vega, was a truck driver and was traveling westbound on Manhattan’s Lower East Side when the truck struck him, according to police.
The truck driver was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
De Lavas husband said the truck driver did not have a licence plate and was not licensed to drive.
He was not arrested.
DeLavas family has been told the truck had been reported stolen and the truck is being examined for a possible criminal record.
Police said they have recovered several guns from the truck, and De La Va ves death has been ruled a suicide.
Dela Vega’s death came just days after a 22-year old man died after he was hit by a car while walking in the same neighbourhood on New Years Eve.
