Ace Hardware Store, the gaming retailer with the biggest selection of gaming hardware and peripherals in the United States, announced it will be accepting Bitcoin in 2018.
The company said it will accept Bitcoin as of January 1, 2018.
“Bitcoin allows anyone to use and transact without a bank or middleman, and we are proud to be a leading online retailer that supports the new technology and its new economic opportunities,” said Jason Smith, CEO and founder of Ace Hardware.
“We believe Bitcoin has the potential to be the best and most secure way to buy and sell digital goods, services, and more.
We look forward to working with other retailers to help ensure this happens.”
Bitcoin is a digital currency that is not backed by a government or central bank.
The currency has surged in value in recent years as its value has risen from around $0.01 to around $500 last year.
The launch of Bitcoin was delayed by the U.S. government, which said it was going to impose a ban on the currency.
Bitcoin has also been subject to some regulatory issues, including currency manipulation and virtual currency exchanges, and some states have banned the virtual currency.
